Archives for category: Currently on Rotation

The music mood lately has been quite mellow resulting in some old, unexpected choices.

Mazzy Star – “Into Dust”
So Tonight That I Might See is an incredible album.  One I always have to listen to from start to finish.

The Sundays – “Here’s Where the Story Ends”

Talk Talk – “I Believe In You”
If you’ve never listened to Talk Talk, I highly recommend listening to Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.  Although they are mostly know for their pop 80s sound, their last two albums really showcase how talented they were.

The Stone Roses – “I Wanna Be Adored”

Emiliana Torrini – “Snow”

Bon Iver – “Can’t Make You Love Me” (Bonnie Raitt Cover)
Absolutely beautiful.  I love the original but this is just…wow.

Hard to believe that the last “Currently On Rotation” post I did was back in February.

NEW LOOK – “The Ballad”
A recent fave and has been on repeat for the past 2 weeks.  I can’t wait to hear more from New Look.  If the rest of their music is anything like the single, I’ll officially be a new convert.

OH LAND – “Lean On Me” (live version)
String quartet.  Enough said.

KIMBRA – “Plain Gold Ring” (Live @ Sing Sing Studios)
This is just really good.

SADE FEAT. JAY-Z – “Moon and the Sky” (Remix)
The merging of two talents who can musically do no wrong is bound to result in something amazing.  Case in point, this remix.

KATY B – “On A Mission”
Great getting ready to go out or morning get pumped for the work with a solo dance party track.

BEYONCE – “Run The World”
I can’t deny the fact that I enjoy this song…a lot.  Also, the video…SICK.  The clothing, the beginning dance segment…Get It Girl!

As I slowly sort through collections from the rest of NYFW and also London Fashion Week, I’ll end the week with a Currently On Rotation post since it has been a while since I’ve done one.

Jessie J – “Price Tag” (Acoustic Version)
LOVE this girl.  Seriously, her voice is incredible.  If you’re late on the bandwagon, you should probably start listening to her ASAP.  I’m more partial to the stripped down versions of her songs.

Say Hi – “Devils”

Martin Solveig & Dragonette – “Hello”

Cee Lo Green– “Bodies”
The video for this song is incredible.  Oh, and hey Kerry Washington and Janelle Monae!

Radiohead – “Lotus Flower”

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart – “Stay Alive”
I just love this song.  It makes me long for summer.  Total 90s vibe which I adore.

Think About Life – “Sweet Sixteen”

Fenech-Soler – “Lies”

Breakbot (ft. Irfane) – “Baby I’m Yours”

Amanda Blank – “Make It, Take It”

Crystal Castles (ft Robert Smith) – “Not In Love”

Jamiroquai – “Canned Heat”
Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of the movie Center Stage and how badly I wanted red pointe shoes.

This is certainly long overdue.  Some of the songs I’ve been listening to lately have been both old and pretty recent.  The overall vibe is generally the same.  With the weather becoming colder and colder, I’ve been in the mood for a more mellow, lo-fi, ambient vibe with a bit of folk in the mix.  The perfect music for a cold night drinking peppermint tea and doing random work.  Janelle Monae was a necessary addition because she is just amazing.

The Tallest Man On Earth – “The Dreamer”

Goldfrapp – “Let It Take You”

Portishead – “Undenied”
I have to write a little something about this band.  I’ve been a fan of Portishead since about junior high and will probably never stop listening to them.  If you’ve never listened to any of their music, I highly recommend doing so asap.

Bjork – “Possibly Maybe”

Florence and the Machine – “Heavy In Your Arms” (C-berg Remix)

Janelle Monae – “Cold War”

Junip – “Always”

Journey – “Don’t Stop Believing”

Veto – “You Say Yes, I Say Yes”

Katy Perry – “Teenage Dreams”
The first and only Katy Perry song I have ever liked.

Cee Lo Green – “Fuck You”

Due to my laziness and work schedule, I’ll close the week with another “Currently On Rotation” post which I was planning on saving for next week.  I haven’t been able to sort through pics yet so, this should hopefully suffice.

I had to feature Wild Nothing and Zola Jesus since both have been a part of my morning routine for the past week.

Wild Nothing – “Confirmation”

Kid Cudi ft. Kanye West – “Wylin Cause I’m Young”
Yes…I am slightly obsessed with Kid Cudi.  It doesn’t help that I’ve been listening to this song tout le temps after stumbling across it online.

Zola Jesus – “Night”
I love everything about this band.

Crystal Castles – “Empathy”

Jay-Z – “I Know”
This song has been out for a while but for some reason, I always go back to it.  One of my favorite songs by Jay-z.  The fact that it was produced by the Neptunes and features Pharrell is an added bonus.

Wild Nothing – “Golden Haze”
I had to post one more song by these guys.  This is the perfect end of summer song.  It makes me miss long drives with all the windows down, blasting music.

Ra Ra Riot – “Boy”

The Whitest Boy Alive – “Burning”

Little Dragon – “Twice”

I haven’t been able to stop listening to this song or watching the music video.  Both are just excuisite.  The mood of the song is just so perfect for a rainy day, a contemplative car ride mix, or just a quiet night in.

Arcade Fire – “Ready To Start”

Arcade Fire – “Month of May”

Mayer Hawthorne – “Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin”

This song has been out for a little while now but it’s still been a fixture in my music rotation.  I can’t help but adore him and his music.  Who can resist that old school motown vibe?

Lissie – “Pursuit of Happiness” (Kid Cudi cover)

This girl can seriously do no wrong.  Every cover I’ve heard her do thus far, which includes “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga and  Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” has been incredible.  It’s not surprise that her version of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness”would not garner the same reaction from me which is, “Holy crap this is so good!”

WOMEN – “Locust Valley”

Kele Okereke – “Tenderoni”

I’ve pretty much been listening to this song because it makes me feel like I’m at a rave.  The product is a solo bedroom dance party complete with some of the cheesiest dance moves ever.  I feel like I should have a supply of glowsticks stashed away for such occasions.

Benoît Pioulard – “Kids Are Getting Younger”

(I’ve been listening to him for about 2 years and still love his music.  If you have not heard any of his albums yet, you should.  I suggest starting with Temper.

Kid Cudi ft Chip tha Ripper (& Christian Bale) – “All Talk”

Memoryhouse – “To The Lighthouse” (MillionYoung remix)

The Hundred in the Hands “Tom Tom”

Beck, Liars, St. Vincent & Os Mutantes – “Need You Tonight” (INXS cover)

Robyn – “Dancing On My Own”

The XX – “You’ve Got the Love” (Florence and the Machine cover)
